The Soft Moon - Insides

The Soft Moon does it so right. "Insides" has been stuck in my head for days, heck, for weeks.  The tune is a churning, dark glistening gem that will leave you wanting more (and dancing alone in your room as the drums come hurdling in - or is that just me?). The Soft Moon is a darkwave, post-punk, post-apocalyptic (as their Facebook page states) trio from San Francisco. They were founded in 2009 as a solo project of singer/songwriter Luis Vasquez.  "Insides" is a cut off their new LP, Zeroes, out on October 30th (in the US) and November 5th (in Europe) via Captured Tracks. Oh, and it's a free download too! Check it out below!

Best of Digital Dreams Fest

Last weekend I spent in Ontario’s capital, Toronto, for Digital Dreams Festival.   The inaugural two day fest was held on the Flats in Ontario Place.   The picturesque postcard view was adorned with four stages, each pumping out premium tunes that got your feet moving (one even on the beach, where the sun’s rays set into the warm sand beneath your feet).  The weather was perfect, the music was magical and the atmosphere was electric.  Below are my favourite songs from the fest.

Martin Solveig – The Night Out (A-Trak Remix) Kaskade feat. Skylar Grey - Room For Happiness (Gregori Klosman Remix) The Naked And The Famous - Young Blood (Tiesto & Hardwell Remix) Ivan Gough & Feenixpawl feat. Georgi Kay - In My Mind (Axwell Mix) Steve Aoki vs Mr. Hudson – Forever Ladi Dadi (Ken Loi Mashup) Miike Snow - Devil's Work (Dirty South Remix) Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Heads Will Roll (A-Trak Remix) Sebastian Ingrosso & Alesso – Calling (Lose My Mind) Alesso – Years Major Lazer – Get Free Kaskade ft Minday Gledhill - Eyes Kaskade vs Nicky Romero - Turn It Down Toulouse Deniz Koyu - Tung! It's Almost Summer Mix

Summer is getting close and the weather today was (and still is) beautiful - high 80's and blue skies. I loved being able to sit outside in my bathing suit and listen to some music. So I randomly decided to make a mix of some of my favourite songs of summer and sun. These songs are, to me, perpetually "summer"(plus most of them have summer or sun in their titles, but that's just an added bonus).  Listening to them makes me think of those summer sunrises, sunsets - purples, pinks, blues and oranges all intermixing to create that summer sky. Plus that summer heat comes to mind and just that feeling of...the sun on your skin, the rays sinking in...

What are some of your favourite summer songs?

Animal Collective - Summertime Clothes

Brothertiger - Summer House

Com Truise - Sundriped

Dirty Gold - California Sunrise

Washed Out - Feel It All Around

Delorean - Stay Close

Millionyoung - Hammock

The Knife recorded a new album last year and it is due for release sometime in 2012.

A Massive Chad Valley Post

I've been a fan of Chad Valley for some time, so I am always excited when he releases new material.  Recently, he remixed Lana Del Rey's "Born To Die" into a tropical, the-sun-is-about-to-set, I'm-walking-through-the-sand-as-the-sky-turns-blues-and-purples tune.

So who is Chad Valley?  Chad Valley (real name Hugo Manuel) hails from Oxford, England and is one part of British six-piece group Jonquil (who describes themselves as "Paul Simon's take on The Smiths").  He makes balearic lo-fi experimental chill pop. It's like you are standing on the shores of a beach in Ibiza watching the sun set...or something like that (he does list "sunset at Cafe Del Mar as one of his 'influences' on his Facebook page). Chad Valley has released two EP's: Chad Valley EP (2010) and Equatorial Ultravox (2011). The remix of Lana and some Chad Valley tracks are below (with his signature dose of tropcalia!)

Some originals...

Chad Valley - Shapeless
(can you ever 'hear' the beach on this one...)

Chad Valley - Up and Down
(please take me to a beach...)

Chad Valley - Now That's I'm Real (How Does it Feel?)
(on a boat, sailing through the crystal clear blue water as the sun hangs above near the horizon waiting to set...)

Chad Valley - Anything
(get down, get funky...in the sun)

Chad Valley - I Want Your Love

Chad Valley - Fast Challenges

Remixes...

Lana Del Rey - Born To Die (Chad Valley Remix)

The Drums - Money (Chad Valley Remix)

And a little Jonquil to whet your appetite...

Jonquil - Mexico

Django Django

I am officially in love with London, England quartet Django Django. They just released their debut LP in January of this year, featuring the jangly-rock-pop track "Default" and the uber catchy "Hail Bop." Check them out below!

Rhye - Open

Kimbra - Cameo Lover

The Kills -  Pale Blue Eyes
Giraffage - Polar Bear

Dracula Palms - Pretty Lady

Shuffled: CFCF - Big Love

I love putting my iPod on shuffle and seeing what pops up. I especially love when it's a song I loved in the past and totally forgot about. As I placed my iPod on suffle (of 13,916 songs - yes), this one came up. I remember jamming to this as I drove home on warm days after long classes and as I worked at my past job. Just a cool, mellow subdued dancey track. This "shuffled" track comes from Montrealer CFCF off his debut LP Continent (released in 2009). A new EP, Exercises, will be released on Paper Bag records in April.

CFCF - Big Love

Here's a track from CFCF's upcoming EP Exercises.

NEW Santigold - Disparate Youth

American Santigold (formerly Santogold) is back with a new song, "Disparate Youth," from her upcoming sophmore release, Master of My Make-Believe, due out sometime this spring.  It's a must listen. I've been hitting repeat many many times.

It seems that I can't stop listening to this one (again). "Peripheral Visionaries" is from Montreal's Young Galaxy. The track is taken off their third album, Shapeshifting, which is HIGHLY recommended. Give it a listen!

A Massive Washed Out Post

Atlanta-based Washed Out, a.k.a Ernest Greene, has been one of my favourite musical acts since the release of the dreamy summery pop song "Feel It All Around" in 2009.  Washed Out was recently featured on CNN's segment #MusicMonday, which is included below.

Washed Out has released two EP's - 2009's "High Times" and "Life of Leisure" - and one LP - 2011's "Within and Without." "Within and Without" was my soundtrack to summer 2011. I had it on repeat constantly.

Here are some of my favourite Washed Out tracks!
Washed Out - Feel It All Around (from Life of Leisure)
Washed Out - Belong (from High Times)
Washed Out - You'll See It (from Life of Leisure)

VIDEO: Korallreven - Sa Sa Samoa

I find myself listening to An Album By Korallreven, the deput LP from Swedish duo Korallreven Marcus Joons and Daniel Tjäder (released last November), a lot lately.  They recently released a video for "Sa Sa Samoa," an amazing track off the LP that takes you on an ethereal journey through layers of sound. Their sound can be described as belaeric electronic dreamy chillout indie pop. So perfect.

Here are some other good tracks off the LP.

Korallreven - Loved-Up

Korallreven - The Truest Faith

The Early Dawn "Mix"

It's late here, verging on dawn. I can't seem to sleep and have been up all night finishing some school work. I found myself listening to the same songs as I worked through mountains of readings.  These seem to be the ones I gravitated toward. May as well make some tea and get some breakfast ready. Good morning!

Grimes - Genesis

Canada's own Grimes is someone to watch in 2012.  Born and raised in Vancouver and now based out of Montreal, Claire Boucher creates well-crafted, sonically beautiful music. "Genesis," the second track to appear on her upcoming LP, Visions, (due out February 21st) takes you to atmospheric heights layered in bouncy synth and piano loop elements.  "Oblivion" (released last October) is another cut from the album.

Tourist. - Placid Acid

Wow. This amazing chilled out tune comes from Tourist., a Brighton producer who used to remix under the name of Little Loud. "Placid Acid" will be included on his Placid Acid EP due out March 14th.

Sound Remedy - Reach For The Stars

It's nice to have some free time on my hands to blog. It seems I'm on a blog overload lately or I may just be finding some awesome tracks that need to be posted. Anyways, I've really been digging "Reaching For The Stars" by Sound Remedy as of late. I really like the progressive house filtering in throughout the background. They make some pretty good bangers including a remix of Nero's "Crush On You" (below).
