A Massive Chad Valley Post

I've been a fan of Chad Valley for some time, so I am always excited when he releases new material.  Recently, he remixed Lana Del Rey's "Born To Die" into a tropical, the-sun-is-about-to-set, I'm-walking-through-the-sand-as-the-sky-turns-blues-and-purples tune.

So who is Chad Valley?  Chad Valley (real name Hugo Manuel) hails from Oxford, England and is one part of British six-piece group Jonquil (who describes themselves as "Paul Simon's take on The Smiths").  He makes balearic lo-fi experimental chill pop. It's like you are standing on the shores of a beach in Ibiza watching the sun set...or something like that (he does list "sunset at Cafe Del Mar as one of his 'influences' on his Facebook page). Chad Valley has released two EP's: Chad Valley EP (2010) and Equatorial Ultravox (2011). The remix of Lana and some Chad Valley tracks are below (with his signature dose of tropcalia!)

Some originals...

Chad Valley - Shapeless
(can you ever 'hear' the beach on this one...)

Chad Valley - Up and Down
(please take me to a beach...)

Chad Valley - Now That's I'm Real (How Does it Feel?)
(on a boat, sailing through the crystal clear blue water as the sun hangs above near the horizon waiting to set...)

Chad Valley - Anything
(get down, get funky...in the sun)

Chad Valley - I Want Your Love

Chad Valley - Fast Challenges

Remixes...

Lana Del Rey - Born To Die (Chad Valley Remix)

The Drums - Money (Chad Valley Remix)

And a little Jonquil to whet your appetite...

Jonquil - Mexico

Nite Jewel - One Second of Love & In The Dark

Lo-fi-electronic-pop singer/songwriter Nite Jewel (a.k.a Ramona Gonzalez) is readying her second album, One Second of Love, for a March 6th release via Secretly Canadian Records. Below are two great tracks from her sophmore release.

Nite Jewel - One Second of Love

Nite Jewel - In The Dark

BONUS - I really love this cover Nite Jewel did of Prophet’s “Tonight" (1984).

I also love this chilled out remix Nite Jewel did of one my favourite songs, Caribou's "Odessa."

A Massive Washed Out Post

Atlanta-based Washed Out, a.k.a Ernest Greene, has been one of my favourite musical acts since the release of the dreamy summery pop song "Feel It All Around" in 2009.  Washed Out was recently featured on CNN's segment #MusicMonday, which is included below.

Washed Out has released two EP's - 2009's "High Times" and "Life of Leisure" - and one LP - 2011's "Within and Without." "Within and Without" was my soundtrack to summer 2011. I had it on repeat constantly.

Here are some of my favourite Washed Out tracks!
Washed Out - Feel It All Around (from Life of Leisure)
Washed Out - Belong (from High Times)
Washed Out - You'll See It (from Life of Leisure)

Washed Out - Echoes (From Within and Without)
"Echoes" made my Top 20 Songs of 2011 in the 5th spot.

Washed Out - Eyes Be Closed (from Within and Without)

Washed Out - Before (from Within and Without)

Washed Out - Amor Fati (from Within and Without)

Washed Out - It's Kate's Birthday (how can this not be one of my favourites? Thanks Washed Out!) (from High Times)
Plus of course...
Washed Out - New Theory (RAC Remix)

The Early Dawn "Mix"

It's late here, verging on dawn. I can't seem to sleep and have been up all night finishing some school work. I found myself listening to the same songs as I worked through mountains of readings.  These seem to be the ones I gravitated toward. May as well make some tea and get some breakfast ready. Good morning!

bittertv - moonlightritual
So chillwavy. So relaxing. Such a great little jam.

Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs - Tapes & Money
I love Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs. Those beats. Feet don't fail me now...

Body Language - You Can (Keep Shelly in Athens Remix)
Keep Shelly in Athens spin this into a blissful dark synth tune.

Nneka - My Home
Oh this song. Beautiful vocals, great beats and very catchy.

Lancelot - We Can Dance (Goldroom Remix)
The merging of all the different sounds. Such an addictive remix.

It seems I'm on a blog overload lately or I may just be finding some awesome tracks that need to be posted. Anyways, I've really been digging "Reaching For The Stars" by Sound Remedy as of late. I really like the progressive house filtering in throughout the background. They make some pretty good bangers including a remix of Nero's "Crush On You" (below).

St. Lucia

St. Lucia is an indie electronic dream. New York based but a South African native, St. Lucia is described as "what happens when the long and bleak winters of New York recede and summer emerges; giving birth to memories of childhood holidays, faded photos of exotic places and the dream of recapturing this" (according to his Facebook page). This is dream pop in its finest form. I cannot get enough of his remix of PAPA's "I Am The Lion King." The song encapsulates a nostalgic feeling that only past summers have left behind. Not only is this a fantastic remix but original St. Lucia is beyond amazing. Last year saw the release of the All Eyes On You" 7" on HeavyRoc, including the stand-out titular track "All Eyes on You" and "The Old House is Gone" (both included below). So sit back, relax and get lost in nostalgic daydreams…

St. Lucia will be also joining the Knocks and Savoir Adore on the Neon Gold Record tour this March.

Also included below is another amazing track "We Got It Wrong."

PAPA - I Am The Lion King (St. Lucia Remix) by St. Lucia

All Eyes On You by St. Lucia

The Old House Is Gone by St. Lucia

Alesso - Nillionaire

This is the last post before I sleep - I can't help it, there's just too much good music to blog about. Alesso is a young electro-progressive producer-DJ hailing from Sweden who remixed the hell out of Swedish House Mafia's "Save the World" last year. (Check it out below!) Lately I have been hooked on the original "Nillionaire" (also released last year). Enjoy!
